It was fifty years ago today … riding many a mile

This was Led Zeppelin’s third album, all of which they released in just eighteen months which, bearing in mind the quality of all three albums, is an achievement unlikely ever to be equalled.  It went to number one within a week of release on both sides of the Atlantic, and is included in the 100 Greatest Albums Ever Made

This was the band’s most successful album, both commercially and critically.  It achieved inclusion in Rolling Stone Magazine’s top 500 albums of all time, as well as in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before you Die.

This was Neil Young’s ‘difficult third album’.  However, coming off the back of his joining Crosby, Still & Nash and their appearance at Woodstock, it proved everything but.

It was forty years ago today … in the back of a Cadillac

This was the band’s first release after the death of lead singer Bon Scott.   By not departing too far from their normal style by recruiting Brian Johnson as his replacement, the band went on to even greater fame.
